The southwest monsoon, locally termed habagat, is set to trigger isolated rain showers over extensive regions of the Philippines on Tuesday, according to the state weather bureau.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) identified the impacted zones as Metro Manila, Mindanao, Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, Mimaropa, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, and Batangas.
Meanwhile, localized thunderstorms will bring scattered precipitation to the remaining parts of the country, with PAGASA cautioning that intense downpours could trigger flash floods or landslides.
Across the archipelago, conditions are expected to remain relatively calm, featuring light to moderate winds paired with slight to moderate sea levels.
Concurrently, forecasters are tracking a low pressure area (LPA) detected 1,655 kilometers east of southern Luzon, situated outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of 2 a.m. The system carries a moderate likelihood of intensifying into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.
PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres noted that the LPA is expected to enter the PAR between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday.
“Once inside the PAR, the LPA will likely bring rains over most parts of the country,” Torres said.
