NEARLY 10,000 PARAÑAQUE SENIORS RECEIVE QUARTERLY SOCIAL PENSION

Close to 10,000 low-income elderly residents in Parañaque City have been granted their financial stipends for the second quarter of 2026 under the national government’s ongoing social welfare initiative.

Mayor Edwin Olivarez led the payout to 9,968 eligible seniors across all 16 barangays in the city, organized alongside the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Beneficiaries received ₱3,000 each to cover the three-month period, calculated at a monthly rate of ₱1,000. The funding aims to assist elderly residents with basic living expenses, including groceries, medication, and daily necessities.

Olivarez noted that raising the monthly allowance from its previous ₱500 rate to ₱1,000 has provided significant relief to senior citizens who lack reliable income sources.

He reiterated the city’s commitment to broadening the reach of the initiative by working closely with national government bodies and local officials.

”Our commitment is to make sure every qualified senior citizen receives the assistance they need. We will continue to strengthen our partnership with the national government so that more elderly residents can benefit from this program,” Olivarez said.

The DSWD Social Pension Program targets indigent, frail, or disabled senior citizens who do not hold existing pensions from the Social Security System (SSS), Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), or private insurers.

Beyond the government-funded quarterly allowance, Parañaque City offers local benefits for its elderly population. These perks encompass Pamaskong Handog packages, birthday and holiday cash gifts, pre-centenarian and centenarian rewards, free cinema access, parking privileges, traffic number-coding exemptions, and funeral support.

Local officials stated that these combined initiatives underscore the city’s drive to safeguard the dignity and overall well-being of its senior community.
