HOUSE PROSECUTORS RESPOND TO VP SARA’S OVERSEAS TRAVEL AMID IMPEACHMENT TRIAL

Representatives from the House prosecution panel gave a brief reaction regarding Vice President Sara Duterte’s current international journey during her active impeachment proceedings.

Lanao del Sur 1st District Representative Zia Alonto Adiong, acting as a spokesperson for the prosecution group, issued a brief remark directed at the Vice President:

“Safe travels and happy trip, and hope she’ll be back soon.”

On Tuesday, July 21, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) disclosed that Duterte is traveling internationally from July 16 through July 31, with a itinerary covering Qatar, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands. The statement was released during the eighth day of her Senate impeachment trial, an event she has not yet attended in person.

The OVP noted that her trip involves both engagements with overseas Filipino groups and personal itineraries, adding that no taxpayer money is funding the journey.

Duterte has reached The Hague, Netherlands, where her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, is detained pending trial at the International Criminal Court (ICC) over alleged crimes against humanity tied to his administration’s anti-narcotics drive.

The Vice President faces an impeachment trial over accusations including the alleged misuse of ₱612.5 million in confidential funds, misrepresentations in her financial asset declarations, unexplained assets, and death threats aimed at President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez.

The 26-member House legal panel is wrapping up its submission of evidence regarding the alleged threats against the nation’s top leaders.
