Senator Pia Cayetano appeared to take a jab at Akbayan Party-list Representative Chel Diokno on Friday, July 24, uploading an edited video to her official social media account targeting his performance during Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial.
The clip—posted directly to Cayetano’s page rather than reshared—was captioned “Nagbabakasakali lang” and “Walang mga ebidensiya pero nag-aakusa na.”
The edited video highlighted an exchange between Diokno, a House prosecutor, and Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano, Pia’s brother, who serves alongside her as a senator-judge. The video cut off before Diokno could finish his response, ending instead with a inserted laughing sound effect.
Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero, presiding officer of the impeachment court, has not issued a statement regarding the post.
The featured exchange centered on the prosecution panel’s request to subpoena the Vice President’s financial records, including bank, tax, and Anti-Money Laundering Act documents spanning nearly two decades.
Senator Alan Peter Cayetano repeatedly questioned Diokno on whether the prosecution possessed solid evidence of unexplained wealth or was engaging in a “fishing expedition,” pressing the distinction between “ultimate facts” and “evidentiary facts.”
He also pointed out perceived inconsistencies in the House’s approach, noting that lawmakers had not requested similar bank records during a prior impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
