The southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, will bring rainfall across several areas in Luzon and the Visayas this Sunday despite Typhoon Noul (formerly Kiyapo) moving further away from the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Typhoon Noul was last located 745 kilometers west-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes. It packed maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour near the center, with gusts reaching up to 195 kph, as it traveled northwest at a speed of 20 kph.
Although the typhoon has exited PAR and no longer poses a direct threat to the country, PAGASA warned that the prevailing southwest monsoon will still trigger wet weather across multiple regions.
Pangasinan and Zambales can expect occasional rains due to the habagat, with moderate to heavy downpours posing a risk of flash floods or landslides.
Meanwhile, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms will affect Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, as well as Aklan and Antique. These areas are likewise advised to stay alert for potential flooding and landslides from heavy rainfall.
For the rest of the Philippines, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with localized, isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are anticipated.
PAGASA added that Extreme Northern Luzon will encounter moderate winds paired with moderate coastal waters, while light to moderate winds alongside slight to moderate sea conditions are expected throughout the remainder of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
