Former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez stated on Monday that he respects President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s comments regarding the flood control issue, despite admitting that the situation has caused pain within their family.
“Masakit man ito sa aming pamilya, iginagalang ko ang naging pahayag ng Pangulo. Hindi ako kailanman humingi ng pabor o espesyal na pagtrato,” Romualdez said.
The President disclosed in his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) that the Office of the Ombudsman is preparing to file several charges against his first cousin concerning his alleged link to anomalous flood control projects.
Emphasizing the importance of due process, Romualdez maintained that the legal system must be allowed to run its course and that decisions should be based strictly on evidence.
“Sang-ayon ako na gawin natin ang tama. Ang tama ay ang sumunod sa proseso at hayaan ang ebidensya ang magsalita,” the former Speaker stated.
“Naninindigan akong wala akong ginawang anumang labag sa batas. At handa akong patunayan ito,” Romualdez added.
