Vice President Sara Duterte has dismissed online rumors alleging that her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, is on the verge of being released from International Criminal Court (ICC) detention in The Hague, Netherlands.
Speaking to reporters in The Hague on Wednesday, the Vice President clarified that she made no claims regarding his immediate release or return to the Philippines during any recent public address.
“Wala akong sinabi doon sa speech ko na lalabas si PRRD next week. Hindi ko alam kung saan nagsimula yung ganoon, pero definitely, wala doon sa transcript na nagsabi ako na lalabas na si PRRD sa ICC,” Duterte said.
She urged the public to verify information through official ICC channels, pointing out that the court’s public docket shows no record of an upcoming release order.
“Alam naman nating lahat, at nakikita natin sa ICC website yung schedule ng kanyang kaso at walang schedule ng release. Ang mayroon lang yung schedule ng kanyang trial proper,” she added.
The former chief executive has been in ICC custody since March 2025, facing three counts of crimes against humanity over alleged extrajudicial killings during his anti-drug campaign as Davao City mayor and president between November 2011 and March 2019.
Official ICC schedules confirm that his trial is slated to commence on November 30, 2026.
