Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson rejected a proposed “ceasefire” on Thursday, July 30, following his allegations of infrastructure project irregularities in Taguig City, the political stronghold of Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano.
Posting on social media, Lacson characterized the peace offering from the opposing camp as insincere and calculated, noting that the overture was extended only after he produced documentation supporting his claims.
He dismissed the move as a tactic intended to stall for time rather than a genuine resolution.
”CEASEFIRE MY FOOT! Anong uri ng tao ang magde-declare ng giyera, toy gun ang dala, at laway ang bala; pag na-confront ng bomba, magre-request ng ceasefire, pabulong pa?” he wrote.
The friction between the two lawmakers intensified after Lacson asserted that he uncovered evidence of double billing and additional anomalies in Taguig’s flood control and slope protection projects.
Lacson confirmed that his team has submitted the documentation to the Office of the Ombudsman and intends to present further details in an upcoming Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing.
The dispute previously flared when Cayetano questioned the increase in Lacson’s net worth.
Lacson maintained that his financial growth stemmed from legitimate business enterprises during his three-year absence from public office, adding that protecting his personal integrity remains his top priority.
