The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has issued a safety warning advising mariners and local fishermen to keep clear of a specific area within the country’s exclusive economic zone, where falling debris from a scheduled Chinese rocket launch is expected to land.
According to a maritime advisory released by the PCG North Eastern Luzon District, China is preparing to launch its Jielong-3 rocket on August 5, with the launch window set between 10:29 a.m. and 11:04 a.m.
Data provided by the Philippine Space Agency indicates that the expected drop zone is situated roughly 94 nautical miles off Babuyan Island and 143 nautical miles off Sta. Ana, Cagayan.
“While the risk to Philippine territory remains low, the PCG urged all vessels to steer clear of the identified drop zone during the launch window and report suspected rocket debris to the nearest PCG unit,” the Coast Guard district stated.
Maritime authorities strongly cautioned fishermen, seafarers, and coastal residents against approaching, handling, or attempting to retrieve any fallen debris encountered in the water.
The public is requested to immediately contact the nearest Coast Guard unit or local government officials upon sighting any suspicious floating material.
