Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson on Wednesday, August 5, shot down claims by Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano suggesting that his anti-corruption investigations are driven by political alliances with the current administration.
The exchange follows Lacson’s ongoing scrutiny into alleged corruption linked to infrastructure and reclamation projects in Taguig City, Cayetano’s political stronghold.
The former Philippine National Police chief emphasized that his long-standing mission remains focused on uncovering graft and holding public officials accountable, regardless of political affiliations.
Addressing a report where Cayetano suggested he face an investigation for targeting political adversaries, Lacson fired back on social media:
”‘Cayetano said Lacson should be investigated for using his position to target his critics.’ – Philippine Star… Translation: Lacson should be investigated for targeting corrupt public officials.”
Cayetano, during a social media livestream on Tuesday regarding alleged illegal reclamation along Laguna Lake, vowed to work with government agencies to prosecute offenders and turn over reclaimed areas to the national government.
However, Cayetano argued Lacson should also be investigated, claiming the senator has grown bolder because “kakampi niya lahat”
Lacson dismissed the accusation, reiterating that his track record proves he pursues corruption and misconduct impartially, irrespective of who holds power.
