Severe weather driven by tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay, coupled with the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat), has impacted over 41,000 individuals across six regions, forcing thousands to flee flooded communities, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported on Wednesday, August 5.
According to the OCD’s latest situation report, a total of 12,432 families—comprising 41,979 people—have been affected across the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Cordillera Administrative Region. Among them, 1,821 families (5,818 individuals) are currently staying in 14 evacuation centers.
Despite widespread rainfall and localized evacuations, state disaster officials confirmed there have been no reported casualties, injuries, or missing persons.
Infrastructure damage remains minimal, with no government facilities affected and only one home reported partially damaged. To date, the government has dispatched roughly ₱1.22 million in emergency relief aid.
With persistent monsoon rains continuing to affect wide stretches of Luzon and parts of the Visayas, the OCD has heightened the alert status of its regional response centers to expedite relief operations, equipment staging, and emergency deployments.
“Our priority is to ensure that all affected families receive the assistance they need while keeping communities safe from further risks posed by continuous rains,” the OCD said.
“Regional offices remain in close coordination with local government units to monitor the situation, support evacuation efforts, and facilitate the immediate delivery of humanitarian assistance,” the agency added.
