The low pressure area (LPA) formerly known as “Maymay” has weakened, but the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will continue to bring heavy rainfall across large portions of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported on Friday, August 7.
According to the state weather bureau’s 5:00 a.m. bulletin, the LPA was last tracked approximately 620 kilometers east of Echague, Isabela, within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Forecasters expect the system to be fully absorbed by Typhoon Dolphin’s circulation within the day. While no Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals are currently in effect, authorities urge the public to stay alert for potential flash floods and landslides triggered by the monsoon.
Occidental Mindoro faces the highest risk of intense, sustained rainfall. Occasional monsoon rains are expected to impact Metro Manila, Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, and Antique. Meanwhile, the trough of Typhoon Dolphin will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.
The rest of Luzon and Western Visayas can anticipate monsoon-driven scattered showers, while the remainder of the country will experience isolated thunderstorms.
PAGASA projects the monsoon’s effects will persist for the next three to four days.
