Malacañang stated that while the government respects freedom of expression, placing coffins bearing anti-China slogans across Metro Manila provides no benefit to the nation.
Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro remarked in a video message that such actions do not demonstrate genuine patriotism.
She advised those responsible to instead work through official channels to address their grievances.
”Sa mga gumagawa ng mga ganitong bagay, hindi po kayo pinipigilan sa inyong freedom of expression. Pero, ang mga ganitong gawain ay hindi nakakatulong sa ating bansa,” Castro said.
”Kung kayo ay makabayan, makipagtulungan po kayo sa ating pamahalaan para matugunan ang inyong mga issues,” she added.
The spokesperson also urged the individuals involved to stop creating unnecessary alarm among citizens.
”Huwag na po kayong maging sanhi ng pangamba, pananakot at panggugulo,” Castro added.
Castro confirmed that the Philippine National Police (PNP) has launched an investigation into the matter and encouraged the public to report suspicious activities to authorities or the 911 emergency hotline.
The statement comes after authorities found five coffins marked with anti-China messages at separate sites throughout Metro Manila early Friday morning.
