Former U.S. President Joe Biden is battling debilitating pain as his prostate cancer metastasizes to other areas of his body, according to his son Hunter Biden. Despite his worsening condition, the former president continues to stay involved in public affairs.
During an emotional interview broadcast late Friday on the BBC, Hunter Biden spoke about the emotional toll his father’s declining health has taken on their family. He shared the severity of the illness, detailing how the former president’s diagnosis has progressed.
”The cancer has spread, metastasized into his bones and further,” he said. “It’s very painful and it’s very debilitating in many respects.”
The elder Biden, who served as the oldest U.S. president at age 83, faced persistent questions regarding his age and physical fitness throughout his four-year term. Both he and his White House administration faced intense criticism over accusations of downplaying his health struggles, particularly after a widely criticized debate performance against Donald Trump led him to end his reelection bid.
The former president officially revealed his cancer diagnosis in May of last year, roughly four months after leaving the White House.
Reflecting on his father’s daily struggle, Hunter Biden expressed how difficult it has been for the family to watch him endure the illness.
”It’s really sad to watch,” Biden said. “The only thing that I’d say about my dad, about his health right now, is I wish he would complain more, because it’s not good.”
Despite the physical toll, Hunter Biden noted that his father remains determined to stay involved in public discourse and speak out on issues he feels strongly about.
“He’s still doing his thing,” he said. “He so believes in this country.”
The former president is scheduled to publish a memoir titled “Promise Me, America” following the upcoming midterm elections.
