The Philippine National Police (PNP) reaffirmed on Tuesday, August 11, its commitment to comply with judicial orders to present former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan before the Sandiganbayan for his scheduled testimony in the corruption trial of former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr.
PNP Chief PGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordered the PNP Health Service to coordinate with the anti-graft court regarding Bonoan’s appearance on Wednesday, August 12, emphasizing that his health needs will be managed throughout the process.
”We have directed the PNP Health Service to fully comply with the Sandiganbayan order and ensure that Mr. Bonoan is brought before the court as scheduled. His medical condition and safety will remain a priority throughout the process,” Nartatez stated.
The court’s Third Division issued a subpoena on August 7 for the 80-year-old former DPWH chief to testify regarding a ₱92.8-million alleged ghost flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan.
Authorities served the subpoena at the PNP General Hospital, where Bonoan remains under medical custody due to various health conditions, including diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and hypertension.
To carry out the transfer safely, Nartatez confirmed that both medical staff and security personnel will accompany the former cabinet official to court.
”The PNP respects the authority of the courts and will ensure that all lawful orders are properly implemented. We will provide the necessary security and assistance while respecting the medical needs of persons under our custody,” Nartatez said.
