The executive branch formally submitted the proposed ₱7.2-trillion National Expenditure Program (NEP) for fiscal year 2027 to the Senate on Tuesday, August 11.
Senate President Win Gatchalian officially received the spending plan during a turnover ceremony at the Senate, accompanied by Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri and Senate Deputy Majority Leader JV Ejercito, who chairs the Senate Committee on Finance.
Acting Budget Secretary Kim Robert De Leon led the executive delegation, alongside Presidential Legislative Liaison Office Secretary Joey Salceda and key Department of Budget and Management (DBM) officials, including Undersecretaries Janet Abuel, Mary Anne Dela Vega, and Ryan Lita, Officer-in-Charge Assistant Secretary Andrea Celene Magtalas, and Undersecretary Goddes Hope Libiran.
The 2027 budget prioritizes social services, allocating a leading ₱2.456 trillion to fuel education, health, social protection, food security, infrastructure, employment, digitalization, and disaster resilience initiatives.
Education remains the top sector overall, with the Department of Education (DepEd) earmarked for a ₱976-billion share.
The remaining funds target essential development areas, including healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, transportation, and housing.
