The Southwest Monsoon, locally known as Habagat, is set to persist across Luzon and the western sections of Visayas on Friday, August 14, delivering scattered downpours and atmospheric instability, according to state weather updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Based on the weather bureau’s early morning bulletin, intermittent rains are expected in Zambales and Bataan due to the direct impact of the monsoon.
Widespread overcast skies along with scattered rainfall and severe thunderstorms are anticipated over several major areas, including:
- Metro Manila
- Ilocos Region
- Cordillera Administrative Region
- Cagayan Valley
- CALABARZON
- MIMAROPA
- The remaining portions of Central Luzon
- Antique
Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon, alongside Aklan and Capiz, can expect partly cloudy to cloudy weather conditions punctuated by isolated rain showers or sudden localized thunderstorms driven by monsoon winds. Across the remainder of the country, localized thunderstorm activity will bring similar scattered cloudiness and isolated precipitation.
In addition to monitoring monsoon activity, PAGASA is tracking a low pressure area (LPA) situated outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
Located roughly 1,950 kilometers east of Eastern Northern Luzon, the weather system maintains a moderate probability of intensifying into a tropical depression within a 24-hour window.
