To prepare for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), local election officers across the Negros Island Region have initiated physical assessments of public school facilities serving as polling venues.
Regional Election Director Lionel Marco Castillano confirmed that field personnel are coordinating with local government units and the Department of Education. Inspections focus on structural integrity—particularly following recent earthquakes and typhoons—alongside power availability and general site readiness.
The inspection drive comes as poll authorities reduce voter density per precinct to facilitate the manual voting process.
”The COMELEC has reduced the number of voters to only 400 per precinct from 1,000 during the 2025 national and local elections as the BSKE will be conducted manually, hence requiring more time for the voters,” Castillano said.
Lowering voter limits per precinct significantly increases the number of classrooms needed compared to prior elections. Operating schedules have also been adjusted to give election inspectors and canvassers adequate time to complete counting and proclamation procedures.
