Manila city officials led a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, August 13, for a new hemodialysis facility located inside the Pedro Gil Residences housing complex, aiming to make life-saving kidney treatments more accessible to local residents.
Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso headed the event at the city-run property along Pedro Gil Street. Once built, the center will provide an additional local option for patients requiring routine dialysis, significantly reducing the burden on those who currently travel to distant medical centers.
The ceremony proceeded despite the city continuing to face challenges caused by nearly a week of heavy monsoon rains. Mayor Domagoso emphasized that essential healthcare efforts must push forward regardless of severe weather or ongoing emergency response operations.
As part of its broader monsoon response, the city government recently distributed 165,000 doxycycline capsules to shield flood-exposed residents against leptospirosis.
While the local government has not yet released specific details regarding the project’s construction budget, machine count, capacity, or estimated date of completion, the facility marks the latest step in Manila’s ongoing effort to expand community-level healthcare infrastructure.
