A low pressure area (LPA) detected outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) remains unlikely to intensify into a tropical depression over the next 24 hours, according to the state weather bureau on Saturday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that LPA 08e was spotted as of 2:00 a.m. on August 15, staying well beyond the country’s weather monitoring boundary.
Despite the low chance of the LPA developing into a storm, PAGASA cautioned that the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, will continue to bring moderate to heavy rainfall across several regions in Luzon.
Between Saturday and Sunday, monsoon rains are expected to drop 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall over Zambales and Bataan. By Monday, similar rainfall levels are projected to affect Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.
Weather forecasters warned that elevated and mountainous areas could face heavier downpours. Additionally, continuous precipitation from preceding days may heighten the risk of flooding and landslides in vulnerable locations.
Local disaster risk reduction and management agencies in the impacted regions have been urged to execute necessary precautions to safeguard communities and properties.
PAGASA added that its regional centers stand ready to issue localized heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm advisories, and further severe weather alerts as atmospheric conditions change.
