The world of Roald Dahl is expanding as Netflix’s Tudum announced on August 12 that an all-new animated feature, Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory, is heading to cinemas globally on November 5, 2027.
Following its theatrical run, the animated adventure will be made available on Netflix for home streaming on December 22, 2027.
Helmed by directors Jared Stern and Elaine Bogan, the upcoming production promises an imaginative reinterpretation of the classic universe, featuring brand-new characters, fresh storylines, original music, and recognizable faces.
Academy Award winner Taika Waititi is set to executive produce the film while also taking on the lead voice role as Willy Wonka. Joining the creative team are producers Timothy Yoo alongside fellow Oscar winner Aron Warner, with Sony Pictures Entertainment managing international theatrical distribution duties.
”[Willy Wonka] is so special to me, and the opportunity to voice such an iconic, eccentric candy genius — if a little mischievous at times — is hugely exciting,” Taika said.
