The legal team of Marikina City 1st District Representative Marcy Teodoro firmly asserted his innocence on Tuesday, August 18, following allegations of sexual assault made by two female police officers.
His attorney, Atty. Alma Mallonga, released a official statement defending the lawmaker.
The statement came after the Department of Justice (DOJ) formally filed charges against Teodoro consisting of four counts of rape through sexual assault and one count of acts of lasciviousness under the Revised Penal Code, as amended.
The criminal indictments stem from formal complaints submitted by two policewomen who were previously assigned to his security detail.
In addition to defending Teodoro, Mallonga raised serious questions regarding how the executive department handled the preliminary investigation.
Mallonga highlighted that the original investigation panel consisted of Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Anna Noreen Deñavadera alongside Assistant State Prosecutor Ruth Anne Zamora.
