BULACAN PLACED UNDER STATE OF CALAMITY DUE TO SEVERE FLOODING

Bulacan was official declared under a state of calamity on Thursday following widespread inundation and structural destruction triggered by Tropical Cyclones Luis and Maymay, which intensified the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat.

The measure was enacted after the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), led by Governor Daniel Fernando, assessed the extent of the damage inflicted on local agriculture, public infrastructure, and affected populations across the province.

According to Fernando, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Bulacan formally authorized the action by passing Resolution No. 708-T’2026 during an emergency special session convened via Zoom.

The emergency status enables the provincial administration to expedite the disbursement and delivery of critical relief supplies, food packs, healthcare support, and funding needed for immediate community rehabilitation and recovery programs.

Continuous torrential rainfall and severe flooding have devastated households, agricultural workers, fisherfolk, commercial enterprises, and vital public works throughout the region.

Data from the PDRRMC’s Situation Report No. 27, released at 8 a.m. on August 20, indicates that floodwaters ranging from one to three feet deep have submerged portions of 11 out of Bulacan’s 24 cities and municipalities.
