The combined force of the southwest monsoon (habagat) alongside tropical cyclones “Luis,” “Maymay,” and “Neneng” has impacted over 6.9 million people across the Philippines, according to a report released by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
The disaster agency stated that more than two million families spanning 10 regions—including Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Central Luzon, Cagayan Valley, Bicol, and Zamboanga Peninsula—have been hit by the weather systems.
Severe conditions forced over 105,000 individuals from their homes. More than 42,000 residents are taking refuge inside evacuation centers, while over 63,000 people are housed in temporary shelters elsewhere.
Casualty figures logged by the NDRRMC include 29 reported fatalities, with five officially confirmed so far. The agency has also validated 11 out of 17 reported injuries, while authorities continue to verify the cases of two missing individuals.
Relentless rainfall and severe winds damaged over 2,300 houses across six regions, leaving northern Luzon communities, Metro Manila, and areas in the Visayas and Mindanao among the hardest-hit regions.
To support the displaced and affected population, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has distributed over ₱1 billion in humanitarian assistance.
