Four higher education institutions (HEIs) have received authorization from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to open Doctor of Medicine programs starting in Academic Year 2026–2027.
Under the issued approvals, CHED granted government permits allowing Tarlac State University (TSU) and North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) to conduct the first and second year levels of their respective medical curricula.
Concurrently, Cavite State University (CvSU) and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (PLMun) were awarded Certificates of Program Compliance for their medical offerings.
CHED Chairperson Shirley Agrupis highlighted that expanding medical education nationwide serves as a strategic step toward addressing the demand for healthcare workers, particularly in underserved regions.
“By strengthening medical education in more parts of the country, the government aims to build a larger pool of health professionals who can serve communities nationwide, including areas where healthcare workers are most needed,” Agrupis stated.
However, the CHED head underscored that broadening access must not compromise educational standards.
“Expanding opportunities to study medicine must go hand in hand with maintaining quality, so that future doctors are equipped with the training and competencies needed to respond to the country’s healthcare needs,” she added.
The four universities earned their approvals following rigorous site evaluations by CHED to verify full compliance with the guidelines set under CHED Memorandum Order No. 18, series of 2016.
