Malacañang clarified that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. views all local chief executives across the country as allies in nation-building, including political figures who express criticism of his administration.
Speaking at a briefing on Wednesday, August 26, Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro addressed queries regarding whether the chief executive now regards Naga City Mayor and former Vice President Leni Robredo as a political partner.
Without singling out Robredo—who served as Marcos’ main rival in both the 2016 vice-presidential and 2022 presidential elections—Castro stated that the President views local government leaders nationwide as partners, withholding that status only from those who impede government projects.
“Lahat naman po sa paningin ng Pangulo. Lahat ng bayan, lahat ng leaders, itinuturing niya iyan na dapat ay kaalyado, kaya nga dapat magkakaisa tayo,” Castro said.
“So doon lang sa mga obstructionist lang naman nagkakaroon ng ibang pananalita ang Pangulo,” Castro added.
Castro noted that the administration remains open to constructive criticism, as it provides valuable feedback to pinpoint operational gaps and improve public services.
“Pero may mga obstructionist na walang nakikita kung hindi manira nang manira,” Castro remarked.
“So, kung sinuman po, kung anuman ang kulay ninyo, hindi po kayo ituturing ng Pangulo na kalaban. Lahat po kayo kaalyado,” she emphasized.
The query came after Castro noted Robredo’s positive feedback regarding the execution of the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF). Castro clarified that the former vice president was cited because she objectively showcased the benefits of the LGSF program without letting political dynamics interfere.
“Kasi po siya iyong pinaka—nakita nating na-interview na napakita niya ang kahalagahan ng LGSF nang hindi namumulitika,” Castro explained.
