In an early celebration of National Heroes Day, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) honored 40 war veterans from Davao City on Wednesday, August 27, paying tribute to their valor, sacrifices, and dedicated service to the Philippines.
Vice President Sara Duterte led the “Saludo: Mga Kuwentong Tapang at Paglilingkod” initiative, which gathered former service members to express gratitude for their crucial role in safeguarding the nation and its citizens during times of war.
“The celebration brought together 40 war veterans who were recognized for their years of service and sacrifices for the country,” the OVP said.
“Through the gathering, the OVP expressed its appreciation for their role in defending the nation and protecting the Filipino people during periods of conflict,” it added.
Key officials present at the tribute included OVP Chief of Staff Atty. Zuleika Lopez, Director for Operations Norman Baloro, and Southern Mindanao Satellite Office Lead Generose Tecson.
The event was held ahead of the official observance of National Heroes Day on August 31.
Through the ongoing “Saludo” campaign, the OVP aims to preserve the legacies of Filipino veterans and inspire younger generations by retelling the stories of bravery that helped secure the country’s freedom.
