Heavy rainfall is expected to persist across sections of Luzon on Saturday, driven by the ongoing influence of the southwest monsoon, while state meteorologists track two weather systems for potential development into tropical depressions.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that a low-pressure area designated as LPA 08i was spotted within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of 2 a.m. Saturday.
The agency noted that the system currently has a low likelihood of intensifying into a tropical depression over the next 24 hours.
Concurrently, a separate system designated as LPA 08j is being monitored outside the PAR. Meteorologists assigned a medium probability for LPA 08j to develop into a tropical depression within the same 24-hour timeframe.
PAGASA cautioned that the southwest monsoon will bring enhanced precipitation, with elevated and mountainous regions facing higher rainfall totals. The weather bureau highlighted that areas already saturated by recent downpours face a heightened risk of compound weather hazards.
In light of the anticipated weather conditions, the atmospheric bureau urged local disaster risk reduction and management offices to implement precautionary measures to safeguard communities and properties.
