More than 8,800 barangays nationwide are facing heightened risks of landslides and flooding due to continuous heavy rains, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) warned on Saturday.
The warning stems from PAGASA’s 72-hour rainfall outlook spanning August 29 to September 1.
According to the bureau, the assessment relies on specific rainfall thresholds, though local ground conditions may alter actual conditions.
“(R)esidents in listed areas and those nearby or downstream are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. Forecasts use GSM (50 mm.) and WRF (50 mm.) rainfall thresholds. These thresholds may vary depending on ground conditions,” the MGB advised.
The threat extends across dozens of provinces, including areas in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and Metro Manila. The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) added a cautionary note for adjacent regions “may also be affected.”

Meanwhile, the severe weather—driven by the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat) alongside tropical cyclones Luis, Maymay, and Neneng—has affected roughly 8 million individuals (2.3 million families) across the country, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
Casualties have risen to 32 fatalities and 19 injuries, while three individuals remain missing across Manila, Quezon City, and Batangas City.
