The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has deployed its disaster response units, heavy equipment, and relief supplies to aid communities hit by severe flooding from the continuous southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, across Central Luzon and Metro Manila.
Military teams mobilized on Saturday across the provinces of Tarlac, Pampanga, and Bataan, partnering with local government units and emergency response groups to perform water rescues and distribute vital relief goods to displaced families.
In Metro Manila, troops under the AFP National Capital Region Command (NCRCOM), through the 12th Civil-Military Operations Battalion, executed evacuation operations in flooded communities within Marikina and Caloocan.
During operations in Caloocan City’s Barangay 176-A, Bagong Silang, personnel safely relocated 74 families—comprising 296 individuals—to a designated shelter in Phase 4 while collaborating with local officials to evacuate remaining residents from high-risk zones.
Troops also partnered with the local task force in Barangay 176-B to guide affected families to official temporary centers.
Meanwhile, military units in Barangay Malanday, Marikina City, joined forces with local responders to evacuate stranded residents to Malanday Elementary School and nearby shelters. Beyond search and rescue efforts, soldiers assisted in distributing emergency food rations and 3,000 bottles of drinking water to evacuated families at the school.
The AFP stated that its personnel remain on high alert, continuously monitoring water levels and coordinating with local disaster authorities to execute further rescue, evacuation, and relief missions as needed to protect lives and support affected communities.
