The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed Sunday that it is still awaiting word on the whereabouts of a Filipino physician reported missing following catastrophic flooding across Nepal.
Diplomats at the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi reported having no fresh leads regarding Dr. Juan Carlos Cinense Manalo as of August 30.
“To date, no information about Dr. Manalo has yet been received or obtained,” the DFA stated.
Philippine officials in New Delhi and the Honorary Consulate General in Kathmandu are actively collaborating with Nepalese authorities to trace the physician.
Manalo was serving as a volunteer for the Isha Foundation—a global, volunteer-run non-profit spiritual group—and was stationed near the Kerung border zone in Tibet when disaster struck.
The agency noted that Nepalese emergency personnel “continue the assiduous work to account for victims, including those listed as missing,” after intense deluge hit north-central Nepal on August 26.
Official data from Nepal indicates that 626 bodies have been recovered, with approximately 2,400 people still unaccounted for as of August 29. Search and rescue teams have safely evacuated over 4,450 individuals, including more than 187 foreign nationals.
“The Nepalese Government takes great care to ensure that any information is officially verified before it is released publicly,” the DFA added.
