Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez ordered the City Engineering Office to construct a permanent drainage line in flood-prone Pascual Compound following a recent assessment by technical personnel.
Engineers identified a viable connection point to channel floodwaters away from the low-lying residential cluster, even though the site sits on privately owned land.
Local authorities have already reached out to the affected property owner to secure authorization for the pipe installation.
Olivarez announced the infrastructure directive on Monday, August 31, during an inspection of emergency siphoning operations conducted by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO). The emergency siphoning was deployed to drain stagnant water following continuous heavy rainfall.
Prior to the siphoning efforts, the local government provided a water pump to help residents clear submerged areas.
While temporary relief measures like pumping and siphoning help address immediate hazards, Olivarez emphasized that the new drainage line will serve as a lasting solution to the community’s chronic flooding issues.
