An official from the Armed Forces of the Philippines testified before the Senate impeachment tribunal on Tuesday that his unit received zero funding from either the Office of the Vice President or the Department of Education for its 2023 youth leadership summit and information-education campaign.
Col. Manaros Boransing II, former assistant chief of staff for civil-military operations of the Philippine Army’s 1st Infantry “Tabak” Division, took the witness stand on the 20th day of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial as the House prosecution panel presented evidence regarding the alleged misuse of confidential funds.
Under direct examination by House prosecution lawyer Reynaldo Robles on whether the Mindanao-based division obtained confidential funds from the OVP or DepEd for its initiatives, Boransing denied receiving any such allocations.
“From 2023, there were no funds from other any government agencies released to the 1st Infantry Tabak Division,” Boransing testified.
“No funds whatsoever or any amount downloaded for 1st Infantry Tabak Division for 2023 for the youth leadership summit and education campaign,” he added.
Boransing further explained that an interagency technical working group, which included DepEd, determined the locations for the youth leadership summits and related activities.
