An interactive augmented reality (AR) tourism mural blending traditional art with digital innovation will soon showcase Bacolod City’s rich history, culture, and unique identity.
Scheduled for unveiling at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds on September 14, the installation serves as a key feature for Bacolod Tourism Week 2026, according to the City Tourism Development Office.
“The project will integrate a physical mural with an interactive augmented reality experience accessible through supported mobile devices,” La Consolacion College (LCC) Bacolod said in a statement regarding the partnership.
Visitors can engage with the artwork using their mobile devices by scanning a quick response (QR) code or using smartphone cameras. This unlocks dynamic digital elements—including three-dimensional visuals, audio tracks, animations, and video features—that overlay and interact with the physical wall painting.
The collaborative project brings together various academic departments from LCC Bacolod:
- School of Hospitality and Tourism Management: Oversees the project concept, overall narrative, and historical accuracy to represent Bacolod’s cultural heritage.
- School of Architecture, Fine Arts, and Interior Design: Handles the physical painting, artistic execution, and digital visual assets.
- School of Business and Information Technology: Develops the AR application, conducts system testing, and provides technical support for the rollout.
The City Tourism Development Office, along with supporting municipal departments, is coordinating site logistics, securing permits, maintaining digital infrastructure, and directing promotional campaigns for the launch.
Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya lauded LCC Bacolod and project stakeholders for utilizing technology to boost local tourism and drive economic growth.
“You are doing this to help and promote the city, not only in the aspect of tourism, but also in the development of Bacolod, the Bacolodnons, and the entire Negrosanon community,” Gasataya said.
