Actor Elijah Canlas has officially verified the end of his relationship with actress and television host Miles Ocampo.
Speaking in a interview on the YouTube vlog of talent manager and online commentator Ogie Diaz, Canlas revealed that the couple has been separated for several months.
He explained that he decided to speak publicly to address mounting rumors surrounding their relationship.
“As much as I’ve been trying to keep it private, syempre we are going through it pero dahil lumalabas na ito lahat, I think it’s time for me to say na opo, totoo siya [na break na kami] and out of respect for Miles, I will always have love for her, parang kailangang sabihin na lang rin may mga speculations na mas nagpapalala pa sa pinagdaraanan ko, sa pinagdaraanan namin,” Canlas shared.
Reflecting on the split, the actor admitted the decision was painful, noting that the separation was not caused by a single major conflict but rather an understanding of their fundamental incompatibility.
He emphasized that both parties made every effort to sustain the relationship.
“Yun ‘yung masakit na part about it kasi nga we got back together thinking ‘this is it’ but that’s what happens in relationships. Binigay namin lahat, ‘yun ang masasabi lo. And we broke up mutually and very amicably. And walang hate, at least on my part,” he noted.
Addressing the public scrutiny surrounding their personal lives, Canlas requested privacy as both individuals process the breakup.
“Sana ‘yung pag-speculate [ng mga issue], wala naman kaming magagawa, we arr public figures. It comes with the job. Minsan masakit kasi hindi nila alam ‘yung totoo, wala naman silang alam, that’s how I like to keep it. ‘Yung pinagdaanan namin, amin ‘yun. ‘Yung pagmamahalan namin, amin ‘yun. So sana po respetuhin ng mga tao ‘yun. And sana go easy on Miles, go easy on me, and let us heal,” he appealed.
Canlas also dismissed allegations that a third party caused the end of their relationship, specifically addressing recent public sightings with singer Thea Astley.
“Miles would know it’s not true. People close to us would know that it’s not true. There’s no third party involved. Walang ganon talaga, ever,” Canlas clarified.
