SANTOS WELCOMES PROPOSED ₱1.17-B BUDGET FOR LRT-1 CAVITE EXTENSION IN 2027

Las Piñas City Representative Mark Anthony Santos expressed gratitude to the Marcos administration following the allocation of ₱1.17 billion under the proposed 2027 national budget to advance the long-delayed LRT-1 Cavite Extension.

He emphasized that the added funding will help resolve financial and right-of-way hurdles that have stalled civil works in southern Metro Manila and Cavite.

“This is welcome news for the people of Las Piñas and the entire southern Metro Manila area. Additional funding means we are giving this long-delayed project a stronger push toward completion,” Santos said.

The expanded budget aligns with the government’s plan to boost national rail transport spending to ₱197.3 billion in 2027 under the proposed National Expenditure Program—a 256.54% increase from ₱55.34 billion in 2026. The ₱1.17 billion intended for the LRT-1 extension is an increase from the ₱799.64 million provided in 2026.

Spanning 11.7 kilometers from Baclaran to Niog Station in Bacoor, Cavite, the ₱64.92-billion project faced delays due to the pandemic and persistent right-of-way conflicts between the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Villar-affiliated firms. However, an upcoming agreement scheduled for September 10 between the DOTr and the Villar Group is expected to grant access to critical land for a station in Las Piñas, removing a key roadblock to construction.

Santos noted that finishing the extension will give commuters traveling through Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Cavite a faster and more dependable alternative to severe road congestion.
