Over 9.6 million individuals across the Philippines have been impacted by the combined effects of the southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Luis, Maymay, Neneng, and Pilandok, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Wednesday morning.
In its 8:00 a.m. situational report, the disaster agency revealed that 2,781,245 families—totaling 9,614,020 people—were affected across 6,551 barangays in 468 towns and cities. The disasters spanned 39 provinces across 10 regions, leaving 162,057 people displaced and pushing thousands into 820 evacuation centers.
An additional 7,478 residents were moved via preemptive evacuations in regions including Ilocos, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, and MIMAROPA.
The severe weather conditions resulted in 44 reported deaths, 18 injuries, and five missing persons. NDRRMC officials noted that 12 of the fatalities and 12 of the injuries have been officially validated, while the remaining casualties remain subject to verification. All five missing person reports have been confirmed.
Heavy rainfall led to widespread flooding in 1,830 locations across Metro Manila, Ilocos, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, and the Zamboanga Peninsula.
The agency recorded 79 additional weather-related incidents, including rain-induced landslides, structural collapses, and severe wind events.
The weather disturbances also caused significant damage to property and vital sectors:
- Housing: A total of 4,361 homes were damaged, with 3,758 partially destroyed and 603 completely ruined.
- Infrastructure: Losses reached roughly ₱8.3 billion across 1,383 affected structures, including flood control projects, public buildings, roads, bridges, schools, and healthcare facilities.
- Agriculture: Estimated damages reached ₱4.12 billion, affecting 80,274 hectares of agricultural land and impacting the livelihoods of 92,953 farmers and fisherfolk.
