A low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a high likelihood of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday, September 12.
In its 2 a.m. advisory, PAGASA identified the system as LPA 09b, which remains outside the PAR.
Another weather disturbance, LPA 09c, is also being monitored outside the PAR but is considered unlikely to develop into a tropical depression within the same period.
Meanwhile, the trough of an LPA is affecting western Northern Luzon, while the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat continues to influence Central and Southern Luzon.
The Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Isabela, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the LPA trough. Moderate to heavy rainfall in these areas could lead to flash floods and landslides.
Metro Manila, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and the Bicol Region will likewise see cloudy conditions with scattered rains and thunderstorms as the Habagat persists. Moderate to occasionally heavy rains may also trigger flooding and landslides.
For the rest of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA also cautioned that severe thunderstorms could result in flash floods and landslides in affected areas.
