The iconic Love Bus has returned to Metro Manila, offering commuters free rides aboard zero-emission electric buses as part of the government’s efforts to improve public transportation.
Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro announced the revival on Friday, saying the initiative supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s push for a more convenient and comfortable commuting experience in the capital.
Speaking to reporters at the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi, India, Castro said commuters can now use the free electric bus service.
“Ngayong taon, zero-emission electric buses na ang makikita sa daan na kayang magsakay ng 36 passengers bawat bus,” Castro said.
The relaunch was spearheaded by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Romando “Don” Artes on Wednesday.
The free service operates from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the route beginning at Robinsons Galleria in the Ortigas Business District.
The buses make stops at several locations, including the MMDA headquarters, Arcovia City, C-5, Bridgetowne Estate in Pasig City, and Eastwood in Quezon City, before completing the return trip.
Castro also emphasized the administration’s continued efforts to provide greater convenience to commuters.
“Muli, nais po nating bigyang-diin na si Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at First Lady Liza Marcos ay hindi matatapos sa pagbibigay ginhawa sa ating mga commuters. So, para sa nais makaramdam ng pagmamahal, sakay na,” Castro said.
The Love Bus was first introduced in the 1970s during the administration of then First Lady Imelda Romualdez-Marcos. It became known as the country’s first air-conditioned bus service and offered commuters a more modern alternative to traditional jeepneys and buses.
