Canadian vocal powerhouse Céline Dion made her formal return to live concert performances in Paris on Saturday, taking the stage for her first full-length show in six years following a hiatus caused by severe health struggles.
Addressing the crowd in an emotional moment during the show, the Grammy Award winner expressed her gratitude and reflected on her resolve to perform once again.
”I made a promise. I made a promise to come back and to be back on stage. Here I am singing for you, and singing for me. Thank you so very much for your support, your patience. I am everything I am because you love me,” she said.
Footage from the heavily anticipated event spread rapidly across social media, where fans globally celebrated her renditions of career-defining hits like “My Heart Will Go On,” “I’m Alive,” and “That’s the Way It Is”. The pop icon also debuted her latest track, “Dansons,” penned by prominent French songwriter Jean-Jacques Goldman.
The Paris show serves as the opening date for a 26-performance run. The engagement was expanded from its original 10-show schedule in response to staggering demand, which saw all 1.17 million tickets sell out within hours as over nine million prospective buyers tried to obtain entry.
Dion’s last full concert tour concluded in 2020, prior to her public announcement in 2022 revealing her diagnosis with stiff person syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological disorder that causes severe muscle rigidity and spasms.
Although she largely stepped away from public life to treat the condition, she notably stepped out to perform Édith Piaf’s “Hymne à l’amour” at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her current Paris residency is scheduled to run through May 2027.
