News5 has introduced a series of changes across its newscasts, giving its news programming a refreshed presentation and more streamlined approach to delivering the day’s top stories.
One of the most noticeable changes took effect on September 7, when TV5’s flagship newscast, Frontline Pilipinas, returned to its original 6:30 p.m. timeslot.
As part of the revamp, Una Sa Lahat has been incorporated into the main newscast. Anchored by Jiggy Manicad, the segment continues to use its familiar question-and-answer format while highlighting the breaking headlines and most important developments of the hour.
Julius Babao and Cheryl Cosim remain at the helm of Frontline Pilipinas, while viewers have also noticed the introduction of new camera angles designed to provide a more dynamic and immersive presentation.
The changes extend to the mid-morning and afternoon editions of Frontline Express, which have also adopted a faster and more straightforward delivery style. News headlines are presented in a more condensed manner to maximize the 30-minute format while maintaining focus on the day’s key developments.
News5 also revamped its morning programming earlier in August with the return of Frontline Sa Umaga. The move followed the cancellation of Gud Morning Kapatid, which had been on air for three years.
Although Frontline Sa Umaga retains much of the team and format associated with Gud Morning Kapatid, veteran journalist Ed Lingao has officially joined the morning lineup, adding another experienced voice to the program.
Lingao’s transfer to the morning block also resulted in a change at Frontline Tonight, where Lourd de Veyra took over his previous late-night anchor duties.
The late-night newscast has likewise undergone a format adjustment. Frontline Tonight now opens with its “Trending Tonight” segment before moving into a brief discussion among the anchors, giving the program a more conversational opening.
Janine Alipo-on has also been added to the Frontline Tonight anchor lineup alongside de Veyra and Maeanne Los Baños. She will continue handling the program’s showbiz coverage while taking on a larger role as its third anchor.
Meanwhile, the weekend edition, Frontline Pilipinas Weekend, has unveiled a new opening billboard (OBB) featuring anchors Nikki de Guzman and Andrei Felix.
Taken together, the changes reflect News5’s continuing effort to modernize the presentation of its news programs while maintaining the familiar Frontline branding across its weekday, morning, afternoon, evening, late-night, and weekend editions.
