The newest installment in the “Resident Evil” series launched with ₱10,427,530 at the local box office, establishing a new record for the highest opening-day earnings for the franchise in the Philippines, distributor Columbia Pictures reported.
Helmed by Zach Cregger—director of “Barbarian” (2022) and “Weapons” (2025)—the reboot moves away from earlier film versions to deliver a completely fresh narrative.
The plot centers on medical courier Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, who journeys to Raccoon City for a routine drop-off. The standard trip quickly devolves into a desperate battle to stay alive when a horde of infected creatures overwhelms the city.
Abrams previously starred as Ethan Lewis in HBO’s “Euphoria”, played the lead role in Netflix’s “Dash & Lily”, and appeared as James in Cregger’s “Weapons.”
This latest entry acts as a complete fresh start, stepping away from the original six-movie saga launched in 2002 with Milla Jovovich as Alice, as well as the 2021 reboot “Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City,” which adapted elements directly from the early video games.
