MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has committed to enhancing coordination with ride-hailing and delivery service providers to bolster safety protocols and safeguard couriers against exploitation by criminal networks.
PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. ordered designated police offices to engage with transport network companies and courier driver associations to establish effective protective measures.
“Ang ride-hailing at delivery services ay patas at marangal na trabaho,” Nartatez said.
“We in the PNP will not allow any unscrupulous group or individual to exploit them, and do something that will compromise the safety and the dignity of those in the ride-hailing and delivery services,” he added.
The initiative follows a recent event in Marikina City, where two alert couriers reported a suspicious package to authorities, resulting in the recovery of ₱150,000 worth of illegal narcotics.
Nartatez commended the drivers for their alertness and assist in anti-drug enforcement, advising delivery personnel across the country to maintain high awareness and report questionable shipments.
“We urge our partners in the ride-hailing and delivery services sectors to maximize the use of the Unified 911 Hotline to report suspicious bookings so that the police can immediately respond to their concerns,” Nartatez said.
“We likewise ask them to be extra vigilant and more discerning when handling suspicious packages,” he added.
To reinforce these efforts, the PNP stated that police units will maintain strategic deployments to increase force visibility and provide rapid emergency response across communities.
