MANILA, Philippines — A state procurement official confirmed on Tuesday, September 22, that GenCorp Industries, Inc. was awarded 49 government contracts across three separate public entities, as the prosecution presented further evidence in the ongoing impeachment trial of the Vice President.
Testifying on Day 28 of the proceedings, Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System (PhilGEPS) Division Chief Rendell Sopeña verified the official records during direct examination by lead prosecutor and Batangas 2nd District Representative Gerville Luistro.
“Binanggit po ninyo na sa inyong pagse-search ay nakita niyo ang 49 awarded contracts sa Gencorp Industries Incorporated. Sino-sino po ang mga procuring entity?” Luistro asked.
“The composition of the 49 awarded contracts are OWWA, meron pong isang contract na na-award sa OWWA, meron pong 33 contracts awarded [by] PhilHealth Region 11, and 15 awarded contracts [by] City of Davao,” Sopeña replied.
The procurement breakdown provided during the testimony includes:
- 33 contracts with PhilHealth Region XI
- 15 contracts with the Davao City local government
- 1 contract with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Region XI
The testimony was introduced to support Article II of the impeachment complaint, which alleges that the Vice President accumulated unexplained wealth.
