MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. clarified on Wednesday, September 23, that he has not yet made a decision regarding the proposed postponement of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), noting that the measure has not officially reached his desk.
Speaking to reporters during a brief interview at the Manila Hotel, the Chief Executive addressed inquiries on whether he would approve the election deferment.
“Wala pa. Wala pa sa akin,” Marcos said.
The President’s statement comes amid circulating reports suggesting he is prepared to sign into law the legislation extending the term of office for barangay and youth council officials from four years to five years.
The House of Representatives previously adopted the Senate’s version of the measure on September 16, clearing the path for the enrolled bill to be transmitted to Malacañang for executive action.
If enacted, the bill will reschedule the upcoming BSKE originally set for November 2 to the second Monday of November 2028, establishing a five-year election cycle thereafter.
