PARAÑAQUE CITY, Philippines — The Parañaque City government has ordered the construction of new drainage systems across two flood-prone areas to mitigate persistent inundation caused by heavy rainfall.
One of the ongoing infrastructure projects is situated along San Felipe Street in San Antonio Valley 2, Barangay San Isidro, an area inundated at least five times during recent southwest monsoon downpours.
According to local officials, floodwaters along San Felipe Street routinely reach knee height, with residents enduring chest-deep waters during two separate heavy rain events. The Parañaque City Engineering Office is handling the construction to enhance rainwater run-off and lessen flood impacts on neighborhood households.
A second drainage enhancement project is currently being undertaken along Manggahan Street in Barangay San Dionisio, according to Mayor Edwin Olivarez.
City authorities confirmed that local government efforts will continue toward pinpointing and resolving drainage bottlenecks in flood-susceptible communities, forming part of Parañaque’s broader infrastructure upgrade program.
