PASIG CITY, Philippines — The local governments of Pasig City and the municipality of Taytay have entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to streamline cross-border tricycle operations and ease daily travel for commuters.
Signed on September 25 at the Taytay Leisure Park by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto and Taytay Mayor Allan De Leon, the pact allows legitimate public utility tricycles to pick up passengers in their home territory and drop them off directly at designated zones in the neighboring locality.
The agreement will be implemented by the Pasig Tricycle Operation and Regulatory Office and the Taytay Municipal Tricycle Franchising Regulatory Office.
Under the framework, authorized tricycles from Pasig may transport commuters directly to assigned areas within Taytay’s barangays of Dolores, San Isidro, San Juan, Sta. Ana, and Muzon. Conversely, Taytay tricycles can drop off passengers across various specified barangays in Pasig, except for Kapitolyo, Oranbo, and San Antonio.
Local officials noted that the streamlined routes aim to directly benefit residents, workers, and students who cross the border daily.
”Makikinabang dito ang mga pasahero na bumabyahe sa pagitan ng Pasig at Taytay, kabilang ang mga manggagawa, estudyante at iba pang commuters, dahil mas magiging tuloy-tuloy at convenient ang kanilang biyahe,” the Pasig City government said in a statement.
The framework operates under a strict “drop-off only” rule to respect local franchise boundaries. Drivers are explicitly prohibited from picking up new passengers in the adjacent city or municipality.
”Hindi maaaring kumuha o mag-pick up ng bagong pasahero sa kabilang lungsod o munisipalidad,” the local government added.
To prevent financial and operational hurdles for transport workers, drivers will not be required to pay for or secure special permits to make cross-boundary trips. Furthermore, accredited drivers operating along the designated corridors will be exempt from out-of-line traffic apprehensions.
The Pasig City government stated on Thursday, October 1, that the official launch date, finalized route lists, and drop-off maps will soon be published via the Pasig City Public Information Office’s official social media channels.
The MOA is valid for one year from its signing and notarization, with an automatic one-year renewal clause unless either party requests termination in writing.
