QUEZON CITY, Philippines — The Workers’ Party of the Philippines (WPP) has begun organizing its strategy for the 2028 elections, revealing plans to run candidates for the vice presidency, Senate, and local offices.
Key party leaders and labor officials outlined their upcoming campaign goals during a WPP-National Capital Region gathering held at Gerry’s Grill in Quezon City.
Atty. Sonny Matula, president of the Federation of Free Workers (FFW) and WPP general counsel, called on working-class citizens to actively pursue public office and political power.
Matula emphasized that because laborers generate the country’s economic wealth, they should also hold a direct hand in governance and policymaking.
The meeting was attended by prominent figures including WPP President Dr. Oscar Morado, WPP Secretary General and FFW International Secretary Atty. Allan Montaño, WPP Senior Vice President and NFL President Atty. General Du, WPP-NCR Vice President Sis. Angel Dio Bonuel, and Kamanggagawa Party-list Representative Eli San Fernando.
By fielding contenders across national and local levels in 2028, the labor group aims to expand the political influence of workers and secure greater legislative and executive representation.
Organizers stressed solidarity among unionists as election preparations begin, using a lighthearted reference to their venue to highlight their rally call.
