DILG TURNS OVER 30 EMERGENCY MOTORCYCLES TO QUEZON POLICE

LUCENA CITY, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) turned over 30 Unified 911 emergency response motorcycles in the province on Wednesday, October 7, aimed at boosting rapid response capabilities for local law enforcement.

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla spearheaded the ceremonial distribution alongside Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief PGen. Jose Melecio Nartatez Jr., Police Regional Office 4-A Director PBGen. Dominic Baccay, and Bureau of Fire Protection Officer-in-Charge Fire Chief Supt. Wilberto Kwan Tiu. They were received by Quezon Governor Angelina Tan and provincial police chief PCol. Romulo Albacea.

The newly deployed units were allocated to police stations across Lucena City, Real, and Lucban.

Highlighting Quezon’s status as the fastest-growing province in the Calabarzon region, Remulla emphasized that two-wheeled emergency vehicles are crucial for quickly curbing street-level crimes and responding to traffic accidents and urgent situations. He noted that mobility is essential for police personnel, pointing out that most officers are proficient motorcycle riders.

The Interior chief added that motorcycles allow more personnel to easily navigate crowded streets and areas inaccessible to standard four-wheeled police vehicles.

“It should also be part of the rapid response to threats before a situation escalates.”

Remulla stressed that the Unified 911 system should extend beyond immediate emergencies to address potential threats proactively. He explained that establishing a single nationwide emergency hotline streamlines and accelerates public requests for assistance from any location.

The system relies on seamless collaboration among local government units, the PNP, BFP, emergency medical services, and medical facilities to ensure the swift dispatch of responders and prompt delivery of healthcare support.
