RADIO COMMENTATOR SHOT AND WOUNDED BY UNIDENTIFIED GUNMEN IN DARAGA, ALBAY

DARAGA, ALBAY — A block-time radio broadcaster and commentator was wounded after being shot by unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants inside his bakery in Barangay San Roque on Monday afternoon, October 12.

The victim, Adrian Loterte—popularly known as “Golden Boy” and an anchor for RBN News TV and DWIZ Legazpi—sustained multiple bullet wounds during the attack at around 4:00 p.m. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Police Regional Office-5 (PRO-5) has activated a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) dubbed “SITG Golden Boy” to spearhead the manhunt and coordinate investigative efforts. The task group is headed by Albay Police Provincial Office Director Police Col. Noel Nuñez and supervised by PRO-5 Deputy Regional Director for Operations Police Col. Wilson Santos.

Authorities are currently reviewing closed-circuit television footage, conducting dragnet operations, setting up checkpoints, and gathering witness statements to track down the suspects, who fled toward Barangay Kimantong on a white-and-black Honda Click motorcycle. While the motive remains undetermined, police have assured the public that all possible angles are being thoroughly examined.

The shooting drew swift and strong condemnations from local officials and lawmakers who emphasized the vital role of media workers in society.

Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Alfredo Garbin Jr. denounced the violent incident, stating:

“I strongly condemn the reported shooting of Bicol media personality Adrian Loterte, who, according to initial information reaching our office, is currently undergoing medical treatment following the attack.”

Daraga Mayor Victor Perete also condemned the attack and called for immediate accountability, saying:

“Every Daragueño deserves to live without fear, and every incident that threatens this fundamental right demands a serious and appropriate response.”

Albay 2nd District Representative Carlos Loria likewise urged investigators to look into potential connections between the shooting and Loterte’s profession, noting:

“No disagreement, criticism, or political difference can justify an attack on another person’s life.”
